Having a good profile picture on LinkedIn is a critical part of a complete and compelling LinkedIn profile. Obviously, a picture shows what you look like, but much more importantly, it portrays, to a degree, how you present yourself – your professionalism, friendliness, openness and more.
Your profile picture should include only you in it, taken close up (shoulders and head), and taking up approximately 2/3 of the frame. It should be clear and high quality. A neutral background is ideal, but an outdoor scene with natural lighting can also be acceptable provided the above guidelines are maintained. There should not be anyone else in the picture, and no evidence of someone cropped out, whether in the original square version or the displayed circle.
Your pose says a lot about you! It may be whimsical, showing that you are playful and fun. You may have a big smile, showing your openness and friendliness. You may have a smirk, showing your dry or sarcastic humor. You may not smile at all, portraying yourself as studious and serious.
